Say the name DUB and certain references can come to mind with that of 20 inch and beyond wheels, celebrities, and the epitome of customization and luxury. Few outside of Southern California know of or have experienced the magnitude of the car shows held by Dub in sunny Southern California. That all changed in 2003, and one stop of their Super Series tour included another sunny state just next door to California. That state was Arizona and the venue used was the Peoria sports complex in the city of Peoria just Northwest of Phoenix on Saturday, November 15, 2003. Power 92.3 and Dub Magazine held a ground breaking car show for Arizona as the Southwest state was treated to a wholesome concert and a Dub lifestyle car show.

The boundary of the wheel just keeps spinning going outward fast as this show exhibited to us the 26" wheel. Just as the gregarious clout of the spinners seems to become closer to reach, the stationary wheel comes back again. A pair of Tahoes with Southern California plates were observed at the show rolling on these tranquil but roaring rims. Think its too big? It may sound like it, but wait until you see such a domestic large SUV turn the corner, roll-up on the grounds, and park for the show. Yet as the SUV is stationary, motion is still present. No, the rim is not moving, but your eyes certainly are as they roll around in your eye socket taking in the magnitude of this wheel, not in disgust mind you, but rather in delight at the marvel of this monstrous wheel on this beautiful machine forming the perfect unison of wheel well, wheel, and fender clearance.

A pair of other breakthroughs were seen at this show and one not too far from the fender. That was the 20", 21", and so on emblems in Dub font that can directly replace the stock emblems on your Tahoe, Accord, and what not. The other breakthrough observed was that of a vehicle that made one react with a surprised and extended whaaaaaat?! An 18-wheeler hugged by graphic vinyl featuring Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers and the Dub logo pulled and parked in the show grounds. Just as quickly as this occurred a second Dub 18-wheeler rolls in featuring the magazine and Redman on the cover parking linearly behind the first. A Wow! escaped our mouths for the second trailer since we were lucky to have seen the first trailer two weeks before its debut. We had never anticipated two Dub trailers. Yes we were surprised and amazed at a second trailer, but wait! Is it? Yes. Oh, yes a third Dub 18-wheeler rolls into the grounds parking linearly behind the second. A few explicit words of joy and awe escaped us.

If three is the charm, Dub certainly had achieved that and in Arizona for that matter. The Arizona scene received a ground breaking treat that would make the Southern California scene green with envy. As the car show got off the ground, the row upon row of competing vehicles gleamed with sheen, prompted us to acknowledge that Arizona was not too far behind the times. One Saturn Ion, for example, boasted amazing paint and an ear mesmerizing sound system designed by Sound Xpression. And definitely a hands down Luxury SUV winner that would have sent any DDAY 2003 Luxury SUV back into the ranks was a Hummer designed by Defender Worx. This Hummer had an impressive use of custom cut stainless steel, chrome plated accesories, and a custom chrome turret on the hood that forever raised the bar in the Luxury SUV category. Hats off to this creation. Other notables in attendance include a 2003 one-off motor bike designed and built from the ground up by Pure Kustom, a 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier designed by Diverse Motorsports that showed the scene that american sedans could give the imports a run for their money, and a pair of impressive trucks that exemplified muscle and finesse from Sub Zero Truck Club.

On the topic of car clubs, many clubs showed up in full force or individually representing. Such teams include Kutsuju Racing, Priority, Kastawayz Kustomz, Wet Dreams, Phoenix Fenes, the International All Stars, Severed Ties, Platinum Konceptz, Sub Zero, Desired Visions, Swift, Diverse, Psychotics, Pharcyde Customs, Art of Noize, Wild Style, Team X Velocity, and E-legal Imports.

Richard of E-legal imports was the sole representative for his team with his 2003 Accord on 20" rims having made the trek from the Los Angeles area. It is very unfortunate that Richard passed away a few days after this show. Richard was a known and very likable automotive enthusiast that brought good times, good laughs, and good memories to our sport. The automotive scene mourns our fallen comrade.

Just as Richard was a personable person, so were the people in attendance. Arizona left no doubt that the Arizona automotive scene knows what they are doing, however the aspect of people struck us as being outstanding. With any given event, people, just as much as the event's focus, make up the event and with an estimated 8,000 people in attendance, they were courteous and friendly both on the show grounds and off. Kutsuju Racing, as an example, was a team full of joy, comradery, and zeal as we stopped to photograph their vehicles and team. Hats off to Kutsuju and the Arizona people for their warm demeanor.

Come concert time, with the people gathered at the stage for the entertainment portion of the show, one local opening act put on a show that has potential and resonates well with the hip hop community. That group was known as TPC. Combining smooth flow and head bopping beats, the group got people going for the next act. NB ridaz and Survivalist also put on a good show followed by a surprise guest appearance by Ginuine that nearly blew the roof off the house as he took the mike to greet the crowd. The finishing touches for the concert and thus the show was put on by the concert's headliner, Loon. The crowd went wild as Loon not only sang to this crowd with flavor, but also went down into the media pit singing his tunes as those closest to stage were able to touch and shake Loon's hand. It is always pleasant to see artists being at one with their public, and Dub's car shows have always allowed for this.

As if no more pleasant surprises could occur in one day, the bikini show did have one. The lovely ladies paraded for us wearing elegant and stylishly sexy evening attire catapulting the contestants to extraordinary beauty. This was by far the most upscale angle we had witnessed in the femme arena of competition. The crowd was immediately impressed and the due admiration took place for our classy contestants. Last but not least on parade, was a very brave young woman who did not let her disability interfere in her participation. Bound to crutches, she confidently strutted her attire and figure and it showed that this gal had put the effort into maintaining a nice figure. The Arizona crowd burst into applause and cheers for this young woman who was not only physically fit, but very good looking too. With the evening wear trial done, what ensued was the flesh fury much to the appeasement of the audience. Arizona's finest had to be on hand as lovely ladies of several ethnicities were strutting their curves and bodies in their fashionable bikini outfits. One gal, who slightly moved the crowd in her evening dress due to a bold, big, and beautiful butt, dropped the bomb igniting the crowd into a wild frenzy while in bikini as this luscious lady proved she had ‘back'. Sir Mix-a-Lot had nothing on this gal as the flash of cameras illuminated the flesh that generated hot flashes. Nothing, however, captivated our hearts as our courageous competitor who took part in the bikini contest showing the world she was definitely fine and fit. Again the crowd burst into cheers and applause of endorsement and encouragement. If the contest had a category for valor, this gal definitely had it. Kudos to her. The winner of the contest was model material as she could have very easily been the spokesperson for these lovely ladies belonging to the Hawaiian Tropics. Just as Hawaii is reknown for its favorable weather, the November evening breeze mixed with the pleasant daytime sun gave the evening's entertainment a smooth finish.

This show finished off the Dub Super Series tour, and plans are already underway for a more extensive and harder hitting tour next year. Dub's explosive growth and impact on the automotive culture goes without saying, thus the 2004 Super Series tour will be one to look forward to with great enthusiasm and positive anxiety.
